Replace cow's milk with plant-based milk

Cow's milk emits three times more CO₂ and uses 22 times more water than soy milk. Plant-based milk is more sustainable, and soy for soy milk causes almost no deforestation.

Description

What we find interesting: Cow's milk has a much greater environmental impact than plant-based alternatives like soy milk, oat milk, or almond milk. One liter of cow's milk emits 3x as much CO₂ (equivalent) and uses 22x more water than soy milk.

And what about deforestation for soy production? Only 2.1% of cultivated soy is used for soy milk. While 76% of soy is used as feed for livestock.

Soy milk is the better choice in every way. Just like all other plant-based alternatives.

3 more reasons to replace cow's milk with plant-based milk:

  • For the production of cow's milk, cows are often artificially impregnated, and their calves are then quickly taken away. Plant-based milk is animal-friendly.
  • Many people have trouble digesting the lactose in cow's milk, which can cause stomach pain and bloating. Plant-based milks are lactose-free.
  • Plant-based milks like oat, almond, and rice milk offer a variety of flavors and textures, making it easier to find something that suits your preferences.

Steps

  1. 1
Try plant-based milks like oat milk, almond milk, soy milk, or coconut milk.
  2. 2
Replace a glass of cow's milk with water or tea at your meal
  3. 3
Use plant-based milk when baking or cooking. Oat milk, for example, is ideal for pancakes, and soy milk works well in sauces.
