Butterfly Highway
Building a butterfly highway
Description
A butterfly highway for and through Amsterdam
Because of all the paving and concrete, there are fewer and fewer butterflies in our city. It’s time to give them a helping hand by planting some greenery!
Together, we’re building the Butterfly Highway: a route through the city filled with pesticide-free plants, giving butterflies places to feed, rest and reproduce. From balconies and gardens to parks and squares.
Alongside larger habitats being created at Marineterrein, in Amsterdamse Bos and at Artis, you can also create a section of the Butterfly Highway on your own roof, balcony or in your garden.
Why do we like it We love how this initiative helps bring nature back into the city. Everyone can contribute, even with just a few plants on a balcony, creating a connected network of safe havens where butterflies can feed, rest and thrive.
