DakAkker – Urban farming and biodiversity on the roof
DakAkker is an urban agriculture project on top of Het Schieblock in Rotterdam. On the 1,000 m² rooftop, organic vegetables, fruit, herbs, and flowers are cultivated and bees are kept, with a strong focus on biodiversity, education, and collaboration with local restaurants and volunteers.
Why do we like this? We find DakAkker inspiring because it shows how urban rooftops can be used sustainably for local food production, biodiversity, and education right in the heart of the city.
