NK Tegelwippen - Replacing Tiles for More Greenery
The NK Tegelwippen (Dutch Tile Removal Championship) encourages neighborhoods and cities to replace tiles with greenery, making streets and gardens cooler, more resilient to flooding, and more biodiverse. By removing tiles and registering your participation, you contribute to a greener Netherlands and help your municipality compete.
Why do we like it? We're fans of initiatives that make greening fun and accessible. The NK Tegelwippen (Dutch Tile Removal Championship) shows that something as simple as removing a tile can really get people moving – especially with a Golden Shovel as a reward. In recent years, 14 million tiles have already been removed! That's the equivalent of 260 football fields with fewer paving stones and more greenery!
