Children’s activity: soil creatures and mushrooms

Are you aged between 4 and 12 and have you always wanted to know what’s crawling around on and under the ground? Then come to the Amsterdamse Bos on 1 November 2026 and set off on a discovery tour with the nature guide. The IVN nature guide has trowels, magnifying glasses and identification charts to help you spend an hour searching for centipedes, snails, worms, beetles, woodlice and many more soil creatures that live amongst fallen leaves, under stones and rotting wood, and of course in the soil itself. Perhaps we’ll also see snails eating mushrooms, and you’ll discover whether all mushrooms have a cap and a stem. The activity will take place at the Boswinkel in the Amsterdamse Bos (main entrance to the Amsterdamse Bos; junction of Amstelveenseweg and Van Nijenrodeweg) on 1 November 2026 from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm. Participation is free, but a voluntary donation to IVN Amsterdam would be appreciated. Registration is required by emailing Lilli-jan Rohof (ljrohof@hotmail.com), stating the child’s name and that of one parent (maximum of one parent).
