Film screening: 'Hope for the Hoop'

On Saturday 3 October, we – the Flora and Fauna Committee – will be bringing the season to a close once again with a film screening at the Nieuwe Levenskracht garden park. This time, it’s HOOP VOOR DE HOEP, a film about nature in the Ronde Hoeppolder. All gardeners, aspiring gardeners and local residents are welcome. The Ronde Hoep, once a peat forest, is now an open meadow, ideal for birds. The tranquillity attracts many city dwellers. However… you’re not allowed in. Amsterdammers therefore know this quiet area primarily as the city’s most popular cycling route. Filmmaker Pim Giel, who lives right next to the Hoep, decided to dedicate a light-hearted documentary to it. Together with his wife and sons – all filmmakers – they spent a year filming. The film is no ordinary nature documentary. The star of the show is the Ronde Hoep itself. That is why both the birds and the people feature prominently. The farmer, wildlife expert, forest ranger, birdwatcher and the leisure visitor – they all share a special bond with this historic peat meadow area. Doors open at 1.30 pm with coffee/tea.
