From wool from Lutkemeer to neighbourhood blankets – let’s work together with wool
Description
The School of Softness by artist, researcher and educator Julina Vanille Bezold is collaborating with Voedselpark Amsterdam on a long-term artistic research project exploring wool, plants, textiles and local ecology.
Together, we are exploring how local materials and crafts can create new forms of connection in Nieuw-West. Over the coming months, we will follow the journey of local wool: from sheep to a growing neighbourhood blanket. The wool comes from sheep in Oud Osdorp and the Lutkemeerpolder, and will be dyed using natural dyes made from plants growing in and around the Lutkemeerpolder.
During a series of gatherings, we will work together on the neighbourhood blanket. Everyone is welcome to join. You don’t need any experience with weaving or textiles—curiosity and a desire to create something together are all you need.
The gatherings will take place at various locations in Nieuw-West and the surrounding area. Some of the workshops will be held at Boerderij De Boterbloem in the Lutkemeerpolder, where the project creates a direct connection between art, local wool, plants and the soil.
