Microsafari field trip: searching for microorganisms in soil and water

Nature is teeming with life that we can barely see with the naked eye. Even in just a teaspoon of soil and a drop of water, countless micro-organisms live. Fungi, algae, bacteria and other micro-organisms play important roles in our ecosystems. During this Micro-safari, we’ll set out to discover that hidden life. We’ll take various samples and use microscopes to find out what’s living in them. The excursion will take place on Saturday 10 October 2026 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm at the main entrance to Heemtuin Sloterpark and the Ruige Riet. Participation is free to mark the 10th anniversary of the Heemtuin Foundation. The excursion will be led by biologist and designer Nehis Osagie. Maximum of 15 participants.
