About the mini-safaris: Go on an adventure at De Ceuvel! During these mini-safaris, you’ll explore the De Ceuvel grounds with a guide. Go in search of everything that lives, crawls, flies or grows between the pavement, the jetty and the bushes. In a fun and accessible way, children discover just how much life is hidden in their own neighbourhood. Afterwards, you’re guaranteed to see the nature around you in a whole new light.

About this Safari: edible wild plants: In summer, many plants are in full bloom, but in autumn everything changes. Leaves fall, flowers disappear and some plants even seem to have vanished completely. Yet they’re already preparing for winter. During this mini-safari, we’ll be on the lookout for edible wild plants at De Ceuvel. How do plants survive the cold months? Which parts remain, and which plants can you still eat in autumn? By the end, you’ll know more about how plants get through the winter and which edible wild plants grow right in your neighbourhood.

About this guide: Yola Galinsky: Yola has a background in herbal medicine. Even as a child, she learnt how plants can be used for their medicinal properties. She enjoys introducing others to the nature that grows all around us and showing how we, as humans, can look after it properly. After all, familiarity breeds affection! Yola is also involved with NoordOogst in Amsterdam-Noord.

Practical information for parents and carers: Supervision: Children take part under the supervision of a parent, carer or other responsible adult. You must not leave your child unsupervised – you remain responsible for them throughout the activity. Fun for all ages: As a parent, you’re very welcome to join in: the safaris are fun and educational for all ages. Where: We’ll meet at Ceuvel Square. Walk through the Ceuvel gate and you’ll see the guide straight away. In case of bad weather, we’ll meet under the canopy at the Maakbar. Cancellation: Can’t make it after all? Please cancel via tessa@deceuvel.nl so that someone else can take your place. Food and drink: We’ll provide free soft drinks and tea. Café de Ceuvel opens at 12 noon. Do you have a ‘green dot’ city pass? If so, you’ll get a discount at the café.
