PampusLab: Stranded on an island!
Description
Autumn half-term 2026 on Pampus. Just imagine: you’re stranded on Pampus because the IJmeer has completely frozen over. How would you get through the winter? The fort-guards’ families knew all about that over a hundred years ago. They were well prepared and knew exactly what they needed to survive a long, isolated winter without outside help. In the PampusLab, you’ll discover how the fort keepers’ families prepared for winter. Of course, you’ll get stuck in yourself too. Tie on your apron and make your own sauerkraut, find out how to produce clean drinking water, experiment with energy and craft a cosy lantern from recycled materials. On some days, you can even send a message in Morse code. Come and experiment, discover and create – and experience what it’s like to live on an island. The PampusLab is open daily during the autumn half-term holidays from 11.00 to 16.00. What can you do? Make your own sauerkraut, discover how to produce clean drinking water, experiment with energy, make a little lantern from recycled materials and decorate it with plants from Pampus. As well as the PampusLab, there’s of course plenty more to discover. Wander through the fort, experience the interactive trails and take a virtual hot-air balloon flight over the Defence Line of Amsterdam. Afterwards, you can warm up in the pavilion, which is decked out in autumnal style. Pampus has been nominated for the VriendenLoterij Museum Prize 2026, which this year focuses on the ‘green museum’. During the autumn half-term, children can experience this for themselves in the PampusLab. Practical information: When: from 10 to 25 October 2026. PampusLab: daily from 11.00 to 16.00. Who it’s for: families and other curious island explorers. Cost: all autumn activities are included in your admission ticket.
